Round 4 of Monster Energy Supercross – Supercross Class – Oakland, CA

As the series rolled into Oakland we already had 3 different winners for three different nights.  A good night of knock down drag out racing is just what the crowd here in the Oakland Coliseum hoped for, and that is exactly what these riders delivered.  The holeshot would be claimed by last week’s winner, Chad Reed. He was followed by Short in 2nd and Hanson in 3rd, with Stewart and Villopoto a close 4th and 5th.  It didn’t take long for Stewart to slice through to second and Villopoto seemed to be right on his heels as they found themselves in 2nd and 3rd right behind Reed. You could throw a blanket over the three as they pulled away from 4th during the opening laps of the main. Dungey was stuck back in 7th off the start and was doing his share of work trying to dig through the pack.

Villopoto was putting heavy pressure on Stewart and at one point they were side by side over the triple but Stewart rode solid holding him off. Stewart wanted into the lead and would dive in on Reed into the flat track turn on the start straight. Sliding sideways he put a nice pass the #22 putting him into the lead.  This left Reed and Villopoto to battle it out behind him and they did not disappoint! The two were close and at one point Villopoto almost passed him but bobbled, giving Reed back a little room.  This would be the way it ended as those three kept the crowd cheering the whole way.  How did the rest of the guys do? Dungey worked his way into 4th, Short held onto a top 5 finish and Kdub was close on his heels in 6th. Millsaps, Weimer, Brayton, and Hanson rounded out the top ten. Four winners in four rounds, on four different brands!!! This season is proving to be just as exciting as we thought!

Round 4 of Monster Energy Supercross – Supercross Lites Class – Oakland, CA

It was perfect bay area weather as the Monster Energy Supercross series rolled into Oakland today. Track conditions were prime for good racing and the Lites class main event did not disappoint.  The start was a flat out drag race between Dean Wilson and Martin Davalos, with Davalos edging him out for the lead.  Wilson then went down hitting a tough block before the triple and was able to re-mount near dead last.  This left Davalos in the lead with Tomac in a very close second, and Osbourne, Musquin, Seely, Anderson, and Moss close behind these two. The pressure may have got to Davalos quick as he bobbled going into a corner letting Tomac into the lead.  That was the last anyone saw of this guy…he was laying down laps.

The battle for 2nd through 5th was tight all race swapping positions back and fourth between Osbourne and Musquin, and at one point Anderson was pushing so hard he passed a few guys all the way to 2nd in one lap.  Perhaps he was pushing too hard as he would then fall during the battle for second leaving Osbourne and Musquin to fight it out for the last two podium positions. After the dust settled if would be Tomac with a very strong win, followed by Musquin, Osbourne, Sipes, and Moss rounding out the top 5. Davalos ended up falling back to 9th.Wilson spent his main event fighting through the pack to end up tenth.  Tough night, but strong ride coming back from that crash.

Tomac leaves Oakland with his red plates firmly attached to his Honda,  now with a 15 point lead over Dean Wilson in the point standings.

Davalos just edged out  the rest of the pack for the holeshot. He would end up in 9th by the end of the main event.

Zach Osbourne was ripping again this weekend and landed on the podium for the second weekend in a row. Unfortunately this will be his last round as he has a contract to go race GP’s.

Jason Anderson showed great speed passing his way through the pack to second, but would fall and eventually end up in 12th for the night.

As Wilson came through the pack he would find himself in a huge battle with Cole Seely and eventually would finish ahead of the #34.

Oakland belonged to Tomac tonight as he put a very dominating win on the rest of the guys and came out with a bigger points lead heading into A2.

Round 3 of Monster Energy Supercross – Supercross Lites Class – Los Angeles, CA

The Supercross Lites class Nuclear Cowboys holeshot would be claimed by Martin Davalos but pretty quickly it became Eli Tomac’s main event.  Tomac looked on point as he rode fast consistent laps to claim the Lites class victory. Behind him Zach Osbourne was having his best race of the season holding onto 2nd place for most of the entire race. He was eventually passed by a charging Dean Wilson. Behind Wilson was Musquin until he landed a little wide, ran into a tuff block and seemed to have the wind knocked out of him, and did not finish the race. He complained of chest pains.  Davalos ended up in 9th place, and Rattray and Anderson rounded out the top five.

Eli looked great all night and was reward with a win.

Round 3 of Monster Energy Supercross – Supercross Class – Los Angeles, CA

With the first race red flagged due to a hard to watch crash on the big triple involving Canard and Morais, the Supercross Class was redirected back to the starting gate. Our thoughts go out to those two, and we heard an unofficial report that Canard has no broken bones. No word yet on Morais.

On the second gate drop it was all Weimer to the first turn taking the holeshot, with Stewart and Reed close behind. Trouble on the first lap for Villopoto as he went off the track and got his bike stuck halfway over a tuff block just before the finish line. He would eventually remount in dead last. Reed found a way by Stewart and Weimer and was on the gas early looking really strong. Stewart came up on Weimer in a corner and gave him a little nudge as he went by knocking Weimer over and ended his strong ride up front for the night. It was all Reed out front letting the race unfold behind him as Stewart lost his front tire in a berm and had a little tipover allowing Dungey in for second place. The number seven would get back up to hold off Villopoto for third. What is that you ask? Villopoto finished fourth? Yes he charged all the way back, again, to almost make the box. Championship points are what he is after and he is getting them.

After all the dust settled it was Reed, Dungey, Stewart, Villopoto, and Metcalf rounding out the top 5.

Dungey played it safe and left with the a second place and the points lead from Dodger Stadium tonight.
