What was supposed to be the final round of the outdoor season as we were oringally scheduled for eariler this season, now the final round before going to a new track, Pala. Nothing was short of racing action, drama and emotional riding from both pro classes and the womens class.

Starting with the first moto of the day in 450, Ryan Dungey our newly crowned 450 champ would go down on lap 1 and DNF due to a brake problem. This what everyone was looking for this season, a chance for an overall. Metcalf out front looked to relax early on but the Windham hunt Metty down. The two would go back and forth trading the number one spot but it would be all Kevin Windham with the moto one win.

Moto two would give Dungey a chance to show the Steel City fans what he wanted to do in the first moto. As he began to check out, Windham would follow him hoping keep speed while Metcalf came through the pack. It would come down to the last lap, but doing the math Windham would take the overall with a third. Metcalf would give it everything he’s got but it was proven that Kevin Windham can throw down with the heavy hitters. Dungey would take the win, Windham grabs the overall followed by Metcalf and Justin Brayton.

All eyes were on Trey Canard and Chris Pourcel for moto one of 250. Trey would have a huge advantage when the gate dropped and jumping up front quickly. Pourcel would do his crafty work as he worked his from the bottom end of 10th, passing teammates and rival Geico riders. Eventually the show down began. Canard and Pourcel battled hard for about the last 7 minutes keeping less than a second between them. But the checkered would come out and Trey would end out on top.

This was the moto to watch. The title hunt is now getting more and more exciting and both Trey and Pourcel outside the the top 5 at the beginning of moto 2. Dean Wilson would lead the charge and begin to feel comfortable out front mean while the battle was coming to him. Riders like Wharton, Barcia and Rattray all trading spots before seeing the 38 and 377 sneak past. Dean would hold on the best he could but there is nothing stoping Canard and Pourcel from getting to the front. After settling up front it was back on to this title chase. This time around Trey would keep a few seconds on Pourcel. When the time ran out, Trey Canard would see and every well erned 1-1 with Pourcel second and Tyla Rattray third.

The racing was not over there, the WMA still had their motos reving up. First moto Fiolek grabs the holeshot and just what Ashley needed was Jessica Patterson goes down just after turn one. But what she didn’t expect is Patterson could remount and get to 9th in the first lap. Jessica would get to the top 5 and have to deal with Pearson, Golden, Balbi and Whitmore before she could have any shot at Fiolek. Out front and charging Ashley Fiolek would hold her gap and take the moto win and Patterson would make it through for an amazing second.

The final moto of the day and the second womens moto. Would see exactly what moto one winner Ashley Fiolek wouldn’t want, the back of the number 2 of Jessica Patterson taking the holeshot. Patterson and Fiolek would check out but behind them Alexah Pearson would have an inspired ride in third holding off a hard fighting Balbi. Coming down to the final laps Fiolek would give it all she had and almost make the pass a few time and with the a final attempt in the last few corners Fiolek would make a mistake and hand the overall to Patterson and Pearson would wrap up the third spot but Balbi would take third overall.

The east coast won’t see any racing for quite some time now until the east coast supercross rounds begin. The riders left the fans with some great memories and non stop excitement. This championship is not over yet as they pack up and head west. Canard and Pourcel would keep this battle going into Pala and the battle for second between Short and Metcalf continues. Thanks to all the track crew and Steel City fans see ya next year!

HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. (Sept. 2, 2010) – After a storied amateur career 18 year-old Nick Paluzzi from Riverside, Calif. will make his pro debut at Steel City Raceway in Delmont, Pa this Saturday, Sept. 4 in the premier 450 class. Paluzzi will also contest the final round of the AMA Pro Motocross Championship Series at Pala Raceway in Pala, Calif. Sept. 11, his home track.

Paluzzi was offered the opportunity to race the last two nationals with the Muscle Milk/Toyota/JGRMX Team after Josh Grant elected to have shoulder surgery this week following a practice crash last Saturday at the Southwick, Mass. race.

“I am really excited to have this opportunity,” said Paluzzi. I want to thank everyone involved at Joe Gibbs Racing as well as all of my sponsors who allowed me to participate.” “Unfortunately injuries are a part of our sport but we always try our best to have two riders in the race for our sponsors, and we are excited to have Nick riding for us the last two rounds,” said Coy Gibbs, the team owner. Below you can see a brief video of Nick Paluzzi talking about his pro debut:

August 25th, 2010 marked the first annual JL59 ride day in memory of Jeagher LaFountaine. Jeagher was a very promising racer and a great person to know. Glen Helen hosted the first anual event and allowed all proceeds to go to the Lafountaine family. Despite scorching temperatures a very large number of people showed up to show there love for JL. Every were you looked JL59 tributes were to be seen. Jeagher’s big brother Josh was Riding Jeagher’s bike and it was really good to see the 59 machine blasting around Glen Helen (a track Jeagher was super fast at).A number of jeaghers close freinds had jeaghers jerseys or Sported #59 for the day. It seemed like everyone had there own way of showin love for Jeagher. It was a great tribute to JL amd the Parade lap in his honor was beautiful. At the end of the parade lap there was a very nice tribute to jeagher just past the finish line.PanicRev Ministries put together a great tribbute and Jeaghers father had touching words for the crowd .Shortly after all riders released a ballon in honor of our freind JL. R.I.P Jeagher you are truly missed. God Speed

Well, another amateur season done!! What a long season. First, I want to start off by congratulating all my riders for a great season.

So let’s get to Ponca City, starting off with Brady Kiesel. Brady is one of my up and coming young B riders who has really worked hard this year. Kiesel finished up front in every moto of the Schoolboy and the Intermediate classes. Brady trains about 4 days a week on the bike and 2 -3 days in the gym where we work on strength and cardio. For Ponca, we worked on getting him ready for the short motos. Our training ride days consists of doing 1 lap sprints and doing several in a row. Usually 10 sprints trying to simulate a moto that gets your heart rate up to around 170-180 and with no rest in between sprints. Then at the end of the day, after we have completed the sprints, I like to throw in a long moto 25-35 mins and keep track of lap times. What I like to see with the long motos is Brady’s laps getting faster towards the end of the moto. We have to monitor this closely making sure he doesn’t get in a relaxed mode and just settle into a slower pace.

Now for Loretta’s, here is where the training in the heat of the day pays off. It’s long motos in the heat with a sweatshirt on!! I had Brady doing 2-3 35 min motos four days a week. With 2 days in the gym doing lots of cardio and core workouts. Heart rate up around 178. Very important to get the heart rate in this area. My training does differ with age. Obviously a 6 yr old needs more one on one rather than pounding out laps all day. I train all ages and class groups. So if anyone is interested, you can contact me at CSMX Training@gmail.com.

I will be posting a blog with azdirt once a month. Discussing where I’ll be and what we’re doing to get ready for the next National. Every month I will talk about a different rider and how I prepare each one differently.

Hope everyone enjoyed! Thanks to Insidermx.com

With a two week break after Unadilla, the Outdoor riders are still hard at work training and getting ready to finish the last three races of the 2010 Lucas Oil AMA Nationals. Saturday I was able to make it out to Raeford North Carolina, home to Wide Open MX Park, which has quickly become one of the areas favorite sand tracks. When I pulled into the parking lot I found Justin Brayton, Cody Robbins, Ronnie Stewart, and the entire Jimmy Weinhert Racing team along with their coach and track designer Lonnie Taylor. It was a fun day to say the least !

Awhite

I’m going to kick this Latest Poop off by talking about how I lost a 20 dollar sandal in the mud at Loretta Lynn’s this year. This sandal, actually let me rephrase, these sandals……meaning a pair of sandals of which I was talked into buying. Instead of going with my brain and buying the cheap sandals, I went with someone else’s and bought these sandals for Loretta Lynn’s. Thursday morning around 10:30 am eastern time, they were taken to their grave on a trip across a very deep and muddy starting line. Saturday, around 12:oo pm eastern time, I recovered one of the brutally beaten set of sandals in the middle of the starting line. This one sandal had survived over 30 gate drops and still looked usable if I was in desperate need of feet protection like I was needing for the 3 hours of bare feet slugging through the track filming. Once sandal number 1 was in hand, I insisted that everyone take photos as I felt like I had just went into the belly of the beast and came out with part of souvenir. Minutes later, I had received news sandal number 2 was located near the equipment. I set out like a man on a mission sweeping the grounds in, out, over, and above; questioned workers and came up empty handed. So that is the story of my sandals that bit the dust or more like bit the mud, July 30th 2010 – August 5th 2010. RIP sandals. Thanks for reading my sandal story. I really needed to get that off my chest and I’m feeling better already. Now onto Kevin Anderson who actually could tell everyone about our Ponca and Loretta Lynn trip for 2010.

Kevin

Ponca and Loretta’s. Races that I had always heard about, read about, saw pictures and video from, and dreamed about going to. Never in a million years did I imagine that I would be going to both, traveling the country with friends, some old, some new. It’s crazy now, looking back on these last two weeks. So many long days, late nights, and countless hours on the road, all in the name of making videos for people back home to enjoy. Some people don’t quite get it. Media people are not rich. We don’t make tons of money. We just enjoy the art of capturing amateur motocross at its best and presenting it to the public at no cost to them.

Ponca was awesome. It’s really cool how much the town embraces the event. We drove into Ponca City and saw signs all over welcoming the MX community. It was a great experience, and I can’t wait for next year.

I was looking forward to Loretta’s so much. It’s the most prestigious amateur event in the country, possibly the world. Riders have worked all year for this event, and all their hard work boils down to this week. On the track, the atmosphere is intense. Off the track however, it is one big crazy party. Just being there seems so surreal.

It’s crazy. Waiting for these two weeks seemed to take forever. Once here however, they flew by. It’s kinda sad, to roll out of those gates, to see all those people that I seemed to have some connection with fade out of my life, but I know that we will be back next year.

AZDirt.com is amazing. What you don’t see, behind the site is a small group of amazing people that are in it for the love of it. This week at Loretta’s we all became close friends, and when I think about our relationships with each other, I know that nothing but sucess can come. So many great things are in the works for the site, and you can be sure that things are only going to get better from here. If these last two weeks are any sign at all, I’d say we have arrived, and were here to stay.

AZDIRT.COM #1!!!!!!!

Miranda

Alright well to start this all off, the past month has been awesome!

I started working for AZ Dirt in April or so, and it’s been really cool! I’ve met many great people along the way and had some very memorable times. In July, I went to Ponca to cover the daily reports and there is where I met Trevor Scott! He’s a really cool guy who helped us out in Ponca with the photos. My brother Darian Sanayei, did pretty well. He was winning his heats and going in with two firsts and one second behind AC. He ended up crashing in two of the 3 mains and didn’t place too well. In one class he did take a third overall and was stoked! After the races ended, myself and my family were off to some Loretta fun! While the trip from Oklahoma to Tennessee was about 12 hours, we were in need of some fuel. We took an exit in a little happening town somewhere in southern Arkansas. When we pulled up, we took to notice many elders in their dancing shoes, hittin’ the floor! The place was a full on dance club! There were couples having a nice dinner and a guy was holding a gig. He was actually a pretty good singer! Darian and I ate, and enjoyed the place. After all the folks left, we jumped back into our rig and put the pedal to the metal in order to reach Hurricane Mills, TN by morning.

Loretta Lynn’s was full of laughs, and hard work as the AZ Dirt crew spent many long hours working on our stuff! By mid week, we all had nicknames and were convinced this was the best crew ever. Kevin Anderson was known as Blacky, for some funny reasons and how he looked upon things. Eric (who came along to help Jason with Amsoil) was known as Tool Time Tim or TQ because he seemed to fix every problem that came about, Austin White was called Ahole, and I was named Dex, simply because I know very very much about almost everything! Hahaha. So, as you can concur, our crew was set and ready to take on anything. As the sun approached each morning, our team rose and got ready to work. Kevin, was covering video, Eric was working at Amsoil; mostly watching tv though, Austin was doing a ton of VZ stuff like photo shoots and such, and I was covering photos. After races were over, we would sit down in the AZ RV and get our stuff ready to be uploaded since the track had no WiFi.

Every night we went to the Holiday Inn to upload. The first night, Austin and TQ had to run to Walmart so Kevin and I sat along the curb with our laptops at McDonald’s. We eventually went into the hotel lobby and sat at the tables. That night was super fun. The internet was running slow and the time was getting late, so Austin wanted to take me back to the track and leave Kevin at the hotel to finish. Blacky got all upset and worried! He said, ” Whattt, you you you’re going to just leave me?” Kevin became friends with the nice front desk lady and she was going to give him a ride back to the track that night. On the drive back, Austin and I kept replaying Kevin’s words and the look on his face back in our heads. It was hilarious!! Austin ended up going back to pick up Kevin later on.

Six o’clock the next morning came fast, and the same routine was set for us. I took pictures and the others did their stuff. That night we went to the same hotel to upload once again. The internet was running faster and we worked while watching Shark Week. I was getting tired of Shark Week and was wishing that the week would turn into a hour! I can’t remember if there was anything special about that night or not but the next night was fun! Jammi from Thor and her guys were staying at the same place so we talked to them for an hour or so, they were looking at some of our work and just hanigng out. That same night, we met the fellows from the New York Pizza stand at the track and got in on a very special deal. One of the workers had a fun time at the beer tent and came back a little drunk, he was doing cartwheels and was full of joy! Austin was video taping the whole thing!

The rest of the week went in the same order, the races were awesome and my brother did well. He raced the 85 12-14 Stk and Mod classes and took a fourth overall in both. I got to see my friends and spend some time with them and that was good. Oh wait, I forgot to mention something. The night of the Kawasaki dinner, the Porta Potty guys were loading up their bathrooms and taking them out. They backed into us and the thing felt like an earthquake. The grill of our rv broke and a couple of other things. After the award ceremonies, we were getting ready to leave and headed out…On the county road, we were moving along and our motorhome shut off. It was late and there seemed to be a problem so we stayed another night at the ranch, and dealt with it in the morning. The next day, it got fixed and we left. We went to breakfast with the Worth’s. It was nice and just what we needed before a 40 hour drive back to the state of Washington. The trip back was a whole lot better than the trip there, it was smooth but longgg! When we got home, I was so happy.

Ashley

The season is almost done and we are passed midway point with only three races left on the east coast; it is a bittersweet feeling. I have only done the east coast nationals, with the exception of RedBud, so I am not worn out but some what sad that another season has come and gone and another summer is almost wrapped. I have had an amazing time and had the opportunities of a lifetime like flying around RedBud in a helicopter and take photos from the sky, walk through Star Racing and the Lucas Oil TLD/Redbull Honda team rigs and stay in some sweet hotels along the way; all while traveling the country with my privateer boyfriend.

The next nationals are going to be exciting and definitely filled with controversy with the return of James Stewart and Jason Lawrence to motocross. Unfortunately, Josh Hill was also seriously injured trying for the back flip right before X games. And, speaking of the X games, JGR’s Josh Grant wrapped up a gold medal for the team while teammate
Justin Brayton scored silver. Josh Grant also competed in this year’s sufercross taking home the win with Surf Champion Sunny Garcia.

Andrew Short is sitting only 95 points behind Ryan Dungey and Trey Canard is now only 38 points behind Pourcel as they go into Unadilla. The rest of the season should be really amped up and fun with the momentum Grant may have picked up from X games and the return of two talented past champions. The next time I’ll be coming to you from Steel City in Delmont, PA. See you there!!
