Behind The Curtains – Washougal

The setting of Washougal is one of the most scenic on the entire outdoors schedule. This was shot with cloud coverage during morning practice but of course the sun came out blazing shortly after. Lots of people I talked to mentioned how much they enjoy being up here, and I felt the same!

“Now HWAAT in the hell is that?”

“Don’t mind me babe I am gonna quick split these pines!! Be down in a minute!!”

(These sky divers are getting more gnar as the season rolls on…)

The fans have to be one of my favorite aspects of motocross. Washougal fans did not disappoint, lets take a look at a few notables…

The goon squad for example. These kids rule…peep that Coors light chest protector. BOOYAH!

Need to sell something? Make a damn shirt and rock it at a national! This kids face screams “You really think he’s got a damn snowballs chance in hell selling that old Pro Circuit exhaust?” More power to ya!

Homemade signs are the definition of a true moto fan. This group was obviously Sipes fans.

Then you have your fans that have Barbie dolls chained to their backpacks…uhhhhhh…

Check out the exclusive KTM factory color Fox instinct boots.

While I was over at the KTM camp, I noticed a very dedicated girlfriend cleaning Marvin Musquin’s helmet. Even while wearing fancy french fashion…that is true commitment. She seems like a keeper.

The Driven to Ride series has been really cool to follow this year. Two full privateers going for it every weekend with minimum funding. They happened to be lined up directly next to each other at the start of the second 450 moto.

I noticed Honda’s 2013 450 getting a good amount of attention throughout the day. I wonder how the factory guys and teams will take to the new bike?

This was also the scene at the Honda pits shortly after moto two. These mechanics don’t stop working until the work is done. Total tear down and rebuild between rounds.

Back to the fans, these particular girls seem to like a certain #5 rider named Ryan Dungey.

This is what makes our sport.

They say it’s the dog days of summer, and this dog was literally having a dog day of summer.

Isn’t Marvin Musquin such a great kid? Always smiling, and seems so nice.

WRONG! He is know for smiling one minute and SNAPPING into a rage the next…here he threatened to rip my lens straight off my camera!

***SIDE NOTE: I AM KIDDING!!!! I dont know the expression this is, but he is indeed a happy, friendly kid!

This is what the rear knobby of Dungey’s KTM looks like just before he rips a holeshot.

The #71 of Kevin Rookstool had some nice fan support and he used it to motivate him to a 15th overall!

Meanwhile…down at the podium these little guys had a serious case of the “gimme’s”!

While these little guys had a serious case of the “got me’s”!!

Alessi made his MotoConcepts team happy this weekend.

I guess when I busted on the Cookes champagne at Hangtown someone over at Washougal must have made note of it. They got their own brand Washougal National champagne!! I’d sip that!

And to close it off…if this is the doorstep of your motorhome you are doing alright. Target sponsor stickers everywhere, suitcase packed, and a big fat Washougal trophy to bring home. It would also mean your name is Ryan Dungey, and unfortunately for you there is only one Ryan Dungey. Sorry Folks!
