The Low Down-Lorretta Lynn's Qualifier

Mar/3/09

Blood and sweat. Kinda corny, I know, but it speaks wonders about this weekend. First of all, I speak for everyone here at AzDirt.com, and Arizona Cycle Park by saying our thoughts go out to the kid who crashed friday night at the bike jumps.

Saturday morning wasnt a great start for the guy who traveled all the way from Maui, Hawaii, crashing in his first lap of practice, and breaking his arm. While were on the subject of crashes, we can add Brian Mccarty, Austin White, Joseph Pena, and many others to the list. Everyone walked away and finished the rest of their motos. That sums up the blood. Now on to the sweat part of it. Again, reaching 90 degrees, Saturday was by far the hottest race of the year. Sunday is a whole different story. With winds reaching up to 45 miles an hour, it was a total disaster. The whole track was a dust bowl, making racing very difficult.

The 250 and 450 Pro, 250C Mod, 250 and 450 Junior, Supermini, and the 65 Mod class had some really good racing, not to mention battles. Sunday’s 250 A/Pro Sport Class started out with the number 29 of Chad Gores was turning everyones heads.  Pulling away from the first lap, he left everyone else pretty much in the dust, Buddi Bruner would run a solid second first moto but in the second moto would fail to finish to mechanical failure. Austin White would have to work his way up to third after a horrible start, which was pretty much the same story for the second moto. The California Native Craig Tomlinson would take second overall, and our own Austin White rounded off the top 3.

Cody Mcelroy came out of the gate strong and took the holeshot Saturday and battled with Joseph Pena, taking the overall and leaving Pena with sloppy seconds. They may be small and goofy kids, but they are the complete opposite on the track. Pena bobbled it a few times with a couple close calls, and a little spill in his second moto. Austin Jamieson from Roy, Utah took third overall.

Austin White dominated the 450 A/Pro Sport Class. In the first moto Austin rounded the finish line berried back in 14th place, soon a pace started to develop between the red bike of 251 and 111 of Brian Mccarty as they blazed through the pack. On lap 6 Mccarty would take the lead for a heart beat and suddenly have a big get off. Austin was sitting 3rd now would go to work and make the pass for the lead a couple corners later and would smooth sailing from there to the checkered! Austin White went 1-2, he would take the overall, with Avery Rogers, and Zach Ahleen taking second and third overall. Brian Mccarty got quite a raspberry, and a good tap on the noggin in his first moto and was unable to start his second moto.

Zay Solis took the overall in the 65cc 7-11 class with a 1-1 for each moto. Close behind was number 81 Chase Mcfadden in second, going 3-2. Connor Giardina was third overall with a 4th and a 3rd. Logan chambers took second in his first moto, and took a pretty hard crash in the second lap of his last moto.

Jaisaac Sloan. What can we say about this kid. He came and put Bailey Bruner in his place is what he did. Just Kiddin Bay. But really, this kid flies. He had a clear track all motos and didnt have to worry about anything. He had the holeshot both motos. Bailey took second in his first and second moto. He had a really good weekend. Second off the start every time just behind Sloan. Look out for this little guy in the future, hes easily gonna withhold the Bruner name, and most likely put Buddi to shame. I mean, scroll to the top of the page and just look at him or if that wasnt good enough for you, heres some more. If your a single lady between the ages of 17 and 20, give him a call or hit him up on the ol’ myspace.

We try to cover as many classes as we can with both video and picture reports. We are understaffed and VERY underpaid and are trying to do the best with what we can. If you would like to report these classes or more you can email me at awhite@azdirt.com
